The Sonny Rollins/Sonny Stitt Sessions
The Sonny Rollins/Sonny Stitt Sessions

This two-LP set contains a couple of the very best Norman Granz studio sessions. Dizzy Gillespie is matched with the great tenor Sonny Rollins on two selections, Sonny Stitt (sticking to tenor) takes Rollins's place for a couple of other songs and then the two Sonnys team up with Gillespie for four remarkable selections. Diz sings "On the Sunny Side of the Street" with good humor and "After Hours" is given a fine treatment, but it is Rollins's ferocious stoptime solo on "I Know That You Know" and the pure fire that is felt on a rapid "The Eternal Triangle" that makes this set truly memorable.
